At WeskusKuier, your comfort and peace of mind are just as important as a beautiful sea view. St. Helena Bay is known for its relaxed, friendly atmosphere — but as with any holiday, it’s good to keep a few safety tips in mind so your stay stays stress-free.
🌊 Beach & Ocean Safety
Swim smart: Not all beaches are ideal for swimming. Ask us which ones are safest for a dip — especially if you’re traveling with kids.
Mind the tides: The ocean here can change quickly. Stick close to shore, and always supervise little ones near the water.
Shoes on rocky bits: Some areas have sharp rocks or sea creatures — aqua shoes can save your feet!
🚗 Driving Around
Take it slow on gravel: Some of our roads are unpaved and scenic — just go easy on the speed and watch for the odd pothole or tortoise crossing.
Don’t leave valuables in the car: St. Helena Bay is peaceful, but best not to tempt fate.
Offline maps help: Signal can be spotty in some areas. We recommend downloading directions in advance or asking a friendly local if you’re unsure.
🏡 Holiday Home Safety
Lock up when you head out or go to bed: Just a good habit.
Security systems: Some of our homes have alarms or are part of a local watch network. We’ll show you how everything works when you check in.
Mosquito savvy: In summer, keep windows screened or use repellents to keep buzzy visitors away.
🌿 Nature & Outdoor Tips
Sun protection is key: Even on overcast days, the West Coast sun is strong. Sunscreen, hats, and lots of water are must-haves.
Seafood safety: If you're keen on collecting mussels or exploring tide pools, chat with us first — we’ll let you know if red tide is a concern.
Snakes are rare, but possible: If you’re walking in nature, wear closed shoes and don’t reach into bushes or rock crevices.
🧍♀️ General Peace of Mind
Out after dark? Stick to lit areas or rather take the car — just in case.
Need help or advice? We’re locals, and we love helping guests! Don’t hesitate to ask us anything.
Support local: Whether it’s buying snoek from a fisherman or grabbing coffee at a family-run café, supporting local is part of the WeskusKuier way.
Your safety and enjoyment matter to us. If you ever feel unsure about something during your stay, just reach out — we’re here to help you feel right at home.
